
Dr. Bailey is a Senior Lecturer in Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences and is internationally recognised for his research in the field of sedentary behaviour and cardiometabolic disease risk. He is Chief Investigator on a range of completed and ongoing research projects investigating the relationship between sedentary behaviour and chronic disease (with a particular emphasis on cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes) and the effects of breaking up sitting time on cardiometabolic health. He has established an interdisciplinary and multi-institutional team of researchers focusing on the effects of reducing prolonged sedentary behaviour in a range of population groups and settings, including young people, workplaces, Type 2 diabetes, spinal cord injury, cardiac rehabilitation patients and police officers. He works with local councils, the UK National Health Service, police forces and community organisations to evaluate sedentary behaviour interventions and translate the findings into practice. He is Associate Editor for Frontiers in Public Health and is a technical advisor for the 2ndedition of the Qatar National Physical Activity Guidelines.
